Help! I made a mistake; I want to stop my divorce.
The divorce rate in California and the rest of the United States is high. Half of all marriages end in divorce. Stopping a divorce once you filed the papers in court can be a complex matter.
However, in order to avoid divorce at all, you must learn to make small adjustments throughout your entire marriage – starting with healthy communication. Effective communication is especially vital during difficult times.
Relationships are never easy. It’s a give and take situation. Successful marriages need time, attention, energy, care, love and respect for one another. You must both make an effort – give 100% all the time.
To stop the divorce happening in your life:
- Ask questions when you do not understand something
- Be observant
- Be aware of the tone of your voice, changes in behavior, and attitude of your spouse
No marriage or person, for that matter, is perfect. By compromising from time to time, you can help build a stronger relationship with your spouse. Every couple has issues that need to be addressed. The following may help you with yours:
- Don’t forget why you fell in love with your spouse
- Don’t try to change his or her thoughts
- Ask what your spouse needs from you
- Try not to act defensively when your spouse says something you don’t agree with
- Avoid arguments on unimportant things – things that really don’t matter
- Ask for your spouse’s opinion on major decisions
- Try to spend quality time with each other
- Learn to say, “I am sorry”
Remember, you cannot change another person. You cannot change all the habits of your spouse. You want to stop a divorce – try to accept your partner as he or she is, and in turn, you will be accepted.
