One of the most important issues in a divorce process is child support.
California law requires child support to be calculated based on several factors that include income and employment of each spouse. The formula used is set forth in the California Family Code and is known as a guideline.
The court order for child support is usually in effect until the child reaches the age of 18 – sometimes a little older. It depends if they are in high school, living at home or cannot support themselves for some reason. Of course, you can pay support for however long after that age.
If you are ordered to pay child support and have questions regarding it, contact an experienced Orange County Family Law attorney who will advise you on your options and help negotiate a fair resolution that works for you, your former spouse and your child.
