A 44-year old caretaker in a Laguna Hills nursing home was arrested for allegedly stealing credit cards from the home’s residents to purchase more than $4,000 in merchandise.
Santa Ana police learned of the thefts when a man reported that his elderly father’s credit cards had been used in several cities – and not by him. After viewing a security video, detectives took a photo to the nursing home where the thief was identified as a nursing assistant.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department had two other reported thefts from that particular nursing home facility. The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, identity theft and elder financial abuse. He was booked at the Orange County Jail.
Investigators are looking into this to see if any more thefts have been reported in recent years.
