California law and domestic partnership

A domestic partnership is a personal relationship between the same or different sexes who are living together and share a common domestic life.  At least one party is at least 62 years old.

California Family Code Section 297(a) states, “Domestic partners are two adults who have chosen to share one another’s lives in an intimate and committed relationship of mutual caring.”

The connection is not based on marriage.  It is created so the couple has the same rights, responsibilities, protections and benefits as married spouses under California law.

There are many ways to approach domestic partnership.  If you have questions or concerns regarding domestic partnerships and if it is right for you, contact an Orange County Family Law attorney who has the skill, resources and dedication to properly handle your case.
