What causes a Parenting Plan Evaluation?

A Parenting Plan Evaluation is a formal investigation that assesses the level of each parent’s parenting skills and determines which parent is best suited to care for the children.  It is usually done at the request of one of the parents, but can also be court-ordered.

A Parenting Plan Evaluation may be requested by the court when the parents are not able to resolve custody and/or parenting time issues themselves.  A custody evaluation is critical in contested custody cases because the parents generally do not have a basic knowledge about the process or what is expected of them.

The Parenting Plan Evaluation is focused on determining the best interests of the children, not what is best for the parents.
