Out-of-State Custody

When a couple is divorced and one parent wants to move out of the area, things can become difficult – problems can and will arise.

If your former spouse is moving out of the state, you need to be able to communicate with him or her in order to make a difficult and complex situation work.  Make sure the two of you sit down and discuss your options, your plans, your feelings, visitation with your child.  You must be on the same page in order for this to be successful for your child.

Being out of state means your child will visit that parent less frequently.  However, the visits can be made a little longer – spending summer vacations and school breaks.  Make sure you discuss how to handle travel expenses with your ex.

If problems arise that you and your ex cannot handle, contact an experienced Orange County Family Law attorney who will make sure the best interest of your child are met.
