What is contempt?

Contempt, in a divorce case, means that one former spouse fails to adhere to a court order that was issued during the divorce proceedings.

Going through a divorce is almost always a stressful and emotional time.  When a spouse does not comply with court orders, it adds a layer of distress to the situation.  Examples include not being allowed to see your children, not fulfilling financial obligations, not paying child support or alimony.  The list goes on and on.

There are serious consequences when you are charged with contempt of court.  They include jail time, fines, probation and even seizure of property.

Is your former spouse in violation of your divorce decree?  Or, are you the person being charged with contempt?  Regardless of which side you are on, contact an experienced Orange County Divorce attorney who will look into this matter and make sure it is resolved efficiently and thoroughly.
