Divorce and estate planning

If you and your spouse created estate planning documents while you were married, it is important to revise them once your divorce is final.

If you believe your ex-spouse is an unfit parent, make sure you appoint a guardian for any minor children in the event of your death.  Make a point to have a trusted friend or family member become the administrator of your estate.  By doing so, you can be assured your assets will be given to those people you want to have them.

Don’t forget about a Health Care Directive which will make your medical wishes known in the event you become incapacitated.

Estate planning is an important issue to take care of.  Contact an experienced Orange County Family Law attorney to discuss what needs to be done to make sure your children are taken care of after you are gone.  Estate planning now will protect your children and your assets later.
