Paternity leave

In California, both a mother and father are entitled to paternity leave when a baby is born.  California’s Paid Family Leave Law allows both parents to stay home from work with pay for six weeks.

If you are about to become a new parent, visit California’s Employment Development Department at www.edd.ca.gov to request the proper forms.  The mother, if she receives SDI pregnancy-related benefits from her employer will automatically receive paid family benefits.

If your employer is telling you that you cannot take six weeks of paid family leave, contact an experienced Orange County Family Law attorney will help you get what the State of California allows you to have.
