Obtaining a restraining order

A restraining order is a court order that protects an individual and prohibits one person from having contact with another, especially during divorce proceedings.

A restraining order can be obtained for domestic abuse, harassment, or child abuse – just to name a few.

·         Domestic abuse is when one adult has intentionally caused you physical pain, physical injury

or has threatened to harm you physically or sexually.

·         Harassment is when an individual attempts, threatens or does strike, push, kick or subject

you to physical contact.  This includes repeatedly acts in an intimidating manner toward you

         for no specific reason.

·         Child abuse is if your spouse physically injures your child or if your child is a victim of sexual

         assault or exploitation.
