Child neglect

California law states that child abuse is when a child is physically injured by an individual – an occurrence that is different from an accident.  It is when a child is subjected to unjustifiable punishment or is sexually exploited or neglected by not getting sufficient food, shelter or medical care.  It is when a parent intentionally fails to take proper care of this child.

In California, California Protective Services or CPS is the major intervention system for a child who is neglected or abused.  Their main goal is to keep all children safe.  Once they investigate the situation and if they determine the child is not safe, the child will be removed from the home immediately – sometimes placed in foster care or with a close relative.

If you suspect a child you know is in danger of being abused or neglected, I urge you to report it to the proper authorities immediately.  Or, you can contact an experienced Orange County Family Law attorney who will investigate and seek justice for this child.
